Animal Sponsorship: Cape Porcupine
Cape porcupines—named for the crest of white-tipped bristles around their necks—are native to sub-Saharan Africa. They are more closely related to guinea pigs than they are to North American porcupines!
They typically weigh 40-66 pounds and eat plants such as roots and bark. Their quills are striped black and white, and they have a group of hollow quills on their tails which rattle when shaken. The quills shed upon impact, embedding in would-be predators.
